WASHINGTON -- Ever since the Philadelphia 76ers acquired him at the deadline, Quentin Grimes has shown off a lot of his game. He has proven that he can be a No. 1 option in a pinch should a team need him to and he has had the opportunity to ball out since becoming a Sixer.
In Wednesday's win over the Washington Wizards, Grimes had 17 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists. He only shot 4-for-17 in what was a tough shooting night, but he went 6-for-8 from the foul line as he was constantly in the paint and getting to the basket.
Since joining the Sixers, 26.4% of his shot attempts have been at the rim which is a career-high for him. That is something that coach Nick Nurse has noticed about his shooting guard.
"I think the biggest thing and one of my favorite things, and I hope he keeps doing this, is he’s going to the basket with a tremendous amount of force," Nurse said before the win. "He’s doing it with some speed, athleticism, and a lot of physicality at the end and finishing. I didn’t know he could do that."
After the win over the Wizards, it was pointed out to Nurse that Grimes got to the free-throw line eight times. That is a number that he can live with. Especially, when considering the fact that opposing teams are sending waves of defenders toward him.
"One of my favorite things that he does is attack the basket," Nurse stated. "They’re really pressing up on him. He’s been a hot player lately. Got to make the right play. Again, I just like the physicality with which he’s doing it. He’s putting his body on the line and getting some dividends from it."
Grimes and the Sixers will play host to the Atlanta Hawks on Friday.
