The Ohio High School Athletic Association baseball postseason marched on for another day on June 3, including some teams punching their tickets to the OHSAA state tournament.

In Division I, Greater Catholic League-South foes St. Xavier and Elder met in the Region 4 semifinals as did Mason and Oak Hills. Moeller in Region 3, met Centerville in the regional finals.

In the Division II bracket, Anderson and Worthington Kilbourne opened the Region 8 semifinals and Loveland and Harrison finished the round.

Here are the results from Cincinnati teams in the OHSAA playoffs. The story will be updated with photographs.

Wardwell's three hits, six RBIs give Oak Hills 11-5 win over Mason in regional semifinals

Oak Hills junior Luke Wardwell gave his team three hits and six RBIs, and a chance for a rare accomplishment.

Oak Hills is one win away from its first regional championship since 1981 after outlasting Mason 11-5 in the second Division I, Region 4 semifinal.

Oak Hills (23-7) avenged two earlier losses to the Comets (19-11), which cost them the Greater Miami Conference title. Mason won the crown by a game over Oak Hills and Lakota East.

The Highlanders gave themselves a chance for a postseason crown, rallying from a 4-1 deficit with 10 runs in the final three innings.

Wardwell, a junior third baseman hitting fifth in the order, had 20 RBIs coming in but was batting only .266.

He notched three two-RBI hits in the last three innings, driving in six of the 10 runs the Highlanders scored in those frames as Oak Hills scored six times off Mason relievers in the final two innings.

An expected duel between Kent State commit Ben Hanley for Mason, and University of Cincinnati commit Drew Murphy, never fully developed. Both pitchers left after five innings with Mason leading 5-4.

Oak Hills struck first off Hanley in the top of the second.

Lincoln Schreiber hit a leadoff single. With two outs, Hanley hit Kellen Gantzer with a pitch. Senior Adam Williamson delivered a single to score Schreiber to give the Highlanders a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, Hanley got out of a jam to keep the deficit at one. Oak Hills senior Wil Kraus hit a single, and senior Ethan Moeves walked. Hanley got the next batter, Dax Redman, to hit into a double play.

In the third, Mason’s bats exploded against Murphy, scoring four runs on four hits with two walks.

Mason’s No. 9 batter, Hudson Groppe, started the inning with a single. Sophomore Jake Koelling walked, and with one out, senior Tyler Groff walked to load the bases.

Liam Sander, a senior and the cleanup batter, launched a fly ball to the gap in left center. The ball bounced over the wall for a ground-rule double, plating two.

The next batter, senior Isaac Vargo, singled to score two more.

It was an uncharacteristic outing for Murphy, the junior University of Cincinnati commit. He had allowed only four runs one other time, April 24. He did not allow an earned run for 34 consecutive innings until Mason got to him. He also had only walked nine batters all season until that frame.

Adam Williamson came on in relief in the sixth and pitched two shutout innings

Hanley kept dealing with the 4-1 lead. He struck out the side in the fourth inning, giving him eight for the game.

In the fifth, Oak Hills tied the game with three runs.

With one out, the Highlanders loaded the bases on a walk, hit batter and single by Dax Redman. Then, the Highlanders benefited from two soft-hit choppers that found the right spot for them.

Wardwell hit a chopper to third base. The ball took a funny hop as the third baseman stumbled, and two runs scored.

Xavier Wasson hit a high chopper right in front of the plate. By the time the catcher, Groppe, was able to grab it, the tying run had scored and Wasson was at first for a single.

In the bottom of the fifth, Mason senior Dylan Heimbuch hit a triple to deep left center. Junior Chase Gandert singled the opposite way over shortstop to give Mason a 5-4 lead.

Mason sophomore Ollie Stuart relieved Hanley to start the sixth. The first two batters reached as Cooper Sweet reached on an error and Wil Kraus was hit by a pitch.

Stuart retired the next two batters, but Schreiber blooped a single into left field to score the tying run.

Wardwell launched a double down the left-field line to score two, giving him four RBIs in the game, and give the Highlanders a 7-5 lead.

Hanley struck out 11 while giving up six hits and three walks in five innings.

Oak Hills scored four in the seventh to pull away. Gantzer and Williamson reached on walks. Sweet bunted them over, and Wil Kraus was intentionally walked to load the bases.

A run scored on a wild pitch. Ethan Moeves walked, and Dax Redman hit an RBI single, his second hit of the game, to make it 9-5.

Schreiber ended with two hits. Kraus reached base four times, with one single. Xavier Wasson had two hits.

Liam Sander led Mason with two hits and two RBIs. Chase Gandert had two hits. Jake Koelling, the leadoff hitter, reached base three times.

Harrison, Anderson set for Division II regional final meeting

In Division II, Region 8, a rematch between Anderson and Harrison will decide which program heads to the OHSAA state semifinals.

Anderson beat Harrison 3-1 in the regular season on May 7. Both teams had hard-fought 2-1 victories on June 3 as Harrison took down Loveland and Anderson beat Worthington Kilbourne.

Grant Fyffe pitched a complete game for Anderson, giving up just two hits and striking out four batters.

Carson Glen doubled home Brayden Moore in the third inning to tie the game 1-1 and the Raptors finally took the lead in the top of the seventh. Swing Mullins had a lead-off triple in the inning and was driven home Moore singled him home.

In the other semifinal, Loveland had a 1-0 lead over Harrison on a home run by Gavin Joyner in the fifth inning. Harrison tied the game in the sixth inning on a fielder's choice and then took the lead in the top of the seventh before wrapping it up in the bottom of the inning.

Anderson and Harrison play at 5 p.m. on June 4 at Day Air Ballpark in Dayton.

Boston College commit Jack Ryan no-hits Elder in St. Xavier semifinal win

St. Xavier Jack Ryan, the GCL-South Player of the Year and a Boston College commit, struck out nine Elder Panthers and didn't allow a hit in the Region 4 semifinals. The Bombers beat Elder 1-0 as Ryan also pitched around four walks.

Moeller shuts out Centerville for first state trip since 2023

Moeller met Centerville in the Region 3 finals and scored five runs in the sixth inning to top the Elks 7-0, advancing to the OHSAA state tournament for the first time in three years.

Matt Ponatoski pitched five innings for the Crusaders and Jake Gaerke finished the shutout with two innings. Moeller took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a bases-loaded single from Teagan Cumberland.

Moeller will play in the state tournament on the hunt for the 10th state championship in program history.
