Brooklyn Nets forward Terance Mann was a valuable veteran presence for the Nets last season as he provided leadership for one of the youngest teams in the league while stepping up when he needed to play extra minutes. Brooklyn had added more veterans to the roster this offseason, but the Nets will eventually have to decide if they will extend Mann when he's eligible to do so.
Keith Smith of Spotrac pointed out in an article that was published on Monday that Mann is eligible to sign an extension with the Nets beginning on Oct. 1. Smith adds that while the window for Mann to be extended begins on Oct. 1, Brooklyn would have until Oct. 19 to sign him to an extension because he'll have one year left on his contract once the 2026-27 campaign begins.
"Overall, it has become increasingly rare for teams to extend players with multiple seasons left on their contracts," Smith wrote when discussing the players, including Mann, that are eligible for extensions through Oct. 19. "Unless the player is giving up some salary in exchange for immediate long-term security, teams generally prefer to let things play out."
Mann, 29, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 7.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 45.7% from the field and 36.4% from behind the three-point line. Mann played 63 games (51 starts) for head coach Jordi Fernandez, who relied on the veteran to be a steady member of the rotation that was willing to sacrifice offensive opportunities in order to focus on defense and spacing the floor.
Mann is slated to earn $15.5 million for the 2026-27 season and $16 million for the 2027-28 campaign so if the Nets do not extend him before Oct. 19, he will still be under contract for next season. Mann came to Brooklyn as part of a trade with the Atlanta Hawks where the Nets received Mann and the No. 22 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft that became forward Drake Powell. Mann is just one of the few players that Brooklyn has to be make decisions on soon.
