Jaylen Brown has three years remaining on his current $285.3 million supermax contract; however, he will become eligible for a $141.9 million two-year contract extension later this summer. That extension would see the Boston Celtics pay Brown north of $70 million per year during his age-33 and age-34 seasons.

Concerningly, that would mean committing sizeable cap space to a player who could be performing at a totally different level by the time the extension kicks in. As such, Brad Stevens has a difficult choice to make. After all, Brown is coming off the best season of his career, having thrived as Boston's primary option on offense and emerging as a genuine leader within the locker room.

Since the Celtics' season drew to a close, Brown's future with the Celtics organization has been a sizeable talking point. His salary makes him a logical trade chip if Boston decides to undergo a considerable roster re-shuffle, while his comments about this being his "favorite season" have also led to additional chatter.

During a recent episode of "The Celtics Chronicle" podcast, hosts Adam Taylor and Mike Weber discussed Brown's extension eligibility, whether Boston should offer the contract extension or not, and what it could mean for his future with the Celtics if Stevens opts against putting an offer on the table.
