The Western Conference Finals series between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder sits at a tense 2-2 tie. Game 5 will tip off soon. This critical matchup takes place on Tuesday night in Oklahoma City.
NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal shared a strong opinion before this big game. He believes that one star player completely controls the outcome of this series.
"None of that matters if my guy gets 30-40 points," O'Neal said on television.
The former champion is tracking Victor Wembanyama very closely. Wembanyama has been excellent for San Antonio. He is currently averaging 30.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game in this round. He scored 41 points during the double-overtime win in Game 1. He also dropped 33 points in the Game 4 victory.
O'Neal feels that Oklahoma City has no way to defend the rookie when he hits those high scoring totals. He focused specifically on Thunder center Chet Holmgren. Holmgren finished with just 10 points during the recent Game 4 loss.
"If my guy is dominating like that, OKC don't have a chance," O'Neal explained.
The television analyst does not think the rival center can stop the attack. He expressed zero faith in the defense of Oklahoma City.
"Cause Chet ain't going to do nothing," O'Neal added bluntly.
The winner of Game 5 will take a 3-2 lead in the series. Wembanyama remains focused on the ultimate goal.
"We've got to get six more wins before we can rest," Wembanyama stated.
Both teams must adjust quickly before Tuesday night's basketball game begins. O'Neal expects absolute dominance on the floor. Wembanyama can prove the legend right with another massive performance.
