Former NFL star Shannon Sharpe was shocked to hear that New York Knicks owner James Dolan asked his roster of elite athletes to abstain from sex in hopes of winning an NBA championship. On an episode of his podcast, “Nightcap,” the Super Bowl Champion implied that he wouldn’t have been able to fulfill such a request.
Shannon Sharpe Stunned To Learn Knicks Owner Asked His Team To Abstain From Sex
Speaking with his co-hosts Chad and Joe Johnson, Sharpe said he was surprised to hear that the Knicks owner requested his team to abstain from sex for 10 weeks. “10 weeks!?” Sharpe exclaimed, noting that he wouldn’t have had the willpower to follow through. “Every two or three days, I’m talking every two to three hours,” Sharpe said about his sexual activity.
As the conversation continued, Sharpe told his co-hosts that while he’s not as active as he was in his younger days, he’ll always find a way to pull through for a moment of pleasure. “Usain Bolt is still fast,” he said. “He ain’t what he was, but he still fast.”
Continuing, Sharpe said, “I might not even be hungry, but once you set the table, I’m gonna eat a bellyful.”
Knicks Owner Makes Headline Over Wild Request
According to a previous report from The Blast, Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart revealed on an episode of their podcast that Dolan made the request during a team meeting in April, days before the playoffs began.
“I had this idea that maybe you should give up sex for the next 10 weeks,” Dolan told his team. “The Spartans, they denied themselves so that they could have an edge. Get the edge.”
Dolan then told his roster of superstars that abstaining from sex would take commitment and would certainly be a sacrifice.
“For the next 10 weeks, this has just got to be all about us,” Dolan said. “It’s not who we play, it’s how we play because I believe this team can beat anybody in the NBA. We’ve already shown that we can.”
Dolan then promised to make the sacrifice worth it for everyone involved, saying, “When we win the championship, we will get rings, and when we get rings, so will they. I will buy a ring for each one of your significant others because their contribution is going to be very important to this team’s win.”
Mikal Bridges Confirmed Dolan’s Request During A Livestream Event
Knicks player Mikal Bridges confirmed the reports earlier this week while livestreaming, according to Complex.
“He brought n—as in and said, ‘Ten weeks! Don’t have any sex. Lock in,'” he said. “N—a’s a savage. He’s a savage! He could be a bigger savage if he built a practice facility in the city. But he’s still a savage.”
While it’s unclear whether the Knicks’ roster actually followed through on Dolan’s request, they secured their third NBA championship on June 13, 2026, beating Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

After locking up the Spurs to bring the NBA championship back to New York, Brunson revealed that his next goal was to land a spot on “Law & Order: SVU.” His revelation really comes as no surprise, considering he’s good friends with the show’s lead, Mariska Hargitay.
According to PEOPLE, Brunson met the actress some time ago and recalled being starstruck in her presence. “I’ve never been like super super like starstruck, super starstruck,” he said. “I saw her, I was like ‘Oh s—.’ The first time we met, it was awesome. We talked and everything.”

Karl-Anthony Towns, on the other hand, is just riding the wave of officially being an NBA champion.
Speaking with Gayle King on CBS Mornings, the superstar 7-foot center said he was “grateful” to have won a ring with the New York Knicks.
“It’s amazing. It’s surreal to see the five boroughs come together as one,” he said. “To see everybody in New York City really all at one time become Knicks fans and just have that love for each other is pretty great.”
