Sha’Carri Richardson has pleaded no contest following her speeding charge back in January.
The Olympic gold medalist was arrested earlier this year in Orange County when deputies say she was going 104 mph along State Road 429, near Stoneybrook Parkway, just outside of Orlando, according to ClickOrlando. Law enforcement claims the track and field star was “dangerously tailgating” other drivers as well as crossing lanes to pass them.

Richardson initially pleaded not guilty, but after changing her plea, she will avoid jail time.

However, she is not getting off scot-free and must pay a $500 fine, complete 100 hours of community service, and finish an eight-hour driving course.
Florida has a relatively new “super speeder” law, that is designed to curb a spike in traffic fatalities, driving over 100 mph is a criminal offense that can carry up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine for first-time offenders. Jail records indicate Richardson was held on a $500 bond.
The January arrest marked her second arrest in less than a year as she was previously detained in July 2025 following a domestic incident at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport involving fellow sprinter Christian Coleman. She later issued a public apology.
Sha’Carri Richardson 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
With the legal matters behind her, Richardson has been excelling on the track. Back in June, she claimed the women’s 100m title at the LA Grand Prix, which was held on the campus of the University of Southern California. She shared with Olympics.com how her race at the LA Grand Prix was a “wake-up call” for the Olympics.
“I would definitely say being here just in LA alone is almost like a wake-up call for 2028 coming up,” Richardson said. “So it’s like a reminder, like, ‘Hey, you want to be back here, you got to work for it, you got be prepared for it’.”
The LA28 Olympic Games are scheduled for July 14 to July 30, 2028.
