Seve Ballesteros was one of the greatest and most charismatic golfers to have ever graced the game.
Ballesteros sadly passed away back in 2011, but the legacy he left behind was an everlasting one.
The Spaniard won an incredible 90 tournaments throughout his professional career, including 50 on the DP World Tour and five major championships.
However, it was Seve Ballesteros‘ swashbuckling style that really endeared him to golf fans the world over.

He played a huge role in making the game as popular as it is today.
And now Ballesteros’ son has highlighted just how much the game has changed without characters like his father dominating the game anymore.
Seve Ballesteros’ son criticizes the best players in the world
There is a real lack of excitement at the very highest level of the game these days when it comes to the personalities of the players.
Seve’s son, Javier, made an appearance on the Hugo Costa Golf YouTube channel and explained why he believes that professional golf is not as exciting as it once was.
“The fact that everything is so professionalized and so studied has caused it to lose some of its essence,“ Ballesteros said.

“You see the players and they’re all much more expressionless, like robots. Before, you saw people with an aura, with charisma.
“Now, I think it’s difficult to find people who catch your eye visually at first glance. Before, you didn’t just see my father: you saw Johnny Miller, Tom Watson, Gary Player, Arnold Palmer, Nicklaus… They had that aura, charisma, and ability to draw the public in.
“Now, without mentioning any names, you see many of the best players in the world and they’re all robots, playing much better than before. I don’t know, for me, that closeness and that essence with the public has been lost.“
Javier Ballesteros actually makes a great point.
Professional golf has a serious dearth of exciting characters
As good as the standard is these days, the professional game is unquestionably devoid of real characters.
And anyone who shows any kind of personality seems to be lambasted for it. Wyndham Clark and Patrick Reed are great examples of that.
As good as Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood and Cam Young are, they hardly have exciting personalities to go with their exceptional golf games.
There is also a real lack of flair when it comes to the way that the best golfers in the world play these days.
Seve Ballesteros was the greatest entertainer of them all, then we were blessed with the likes of Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.
Professional golf is definitely worse off as a product without characters like those, regardless of the quality of golf played over the past five years or so.
