Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk’s first Stanley Cup Playoffs appearance came with high expectations and a six-game, first-round defeat to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Senators held an end-of-season media availability on Saturday, and Ottawa's captain touched on multiple topics, including injuries.

Tkachuk revealed that he had been playing through a hip injury sustained during the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament in February.

The injury happened in a collision with the Swedish goalie. After missing a few games, Tkachuk returned to Ottawa to play the remainder of the regular season before suffering a different, upper-body injury against Pittsburgh on March 30.

“The hip happened in that Sweden game,” Tkachuk said. “Took some time coming back to try to get it as good as possible. Now it’s just, take the time to get that all healed up. It could heal up in the next couple of weeks.”

Tkachuk then missed eight games during the home stretch of the season after the hit by Penguins defenseman Ryan Graves, which was called for interference.

The captain returned to the Senators' lineup on April 17, just ahead of Game 1 against the Maple Leafs.

Asked to elaborate on his injury woes and what's ahead in terms of rehabilitation and timelines, Tkachuk declined to share any further details.

“I definitely don’t want to diagnose and put it out there,” Tkachuk said. “Let’s just say it’s something you can’t really play through.”

Despite his physical issues, Tkachuk still managed four goals and three assists for seven total points across six postseason games.

Ottawa pushed the Maple Leafs to a competitive series but ultimately lost in a "devastating" Game 6 at home, ending their first postseason campaign since 2017.

Finally, Tkachuk confirmed he won’t participate in the upcoming IIHF World Championship, opting instead to prioritize recovery.
