NEW YORK – Crash, boom, bang.
In Monday night’s fifth inning, the Yankees cranked out three home runs to grab a 4-1 lead against the Kansas City Royals.
All three were surrendered by Royals right-handed veteran starter Seth Lugo, beginning with Trent Grisham’s tie-breaking leadoff shot.
And to think, Grisham – now with four homers - began his at-bat trying to bunt for a hit.
One out later, Ben Rice drove his fifth homer of the year over the right field wall, giving the Yanks a 3-1 lead.
After the AL’s home run leader, Aaron Judge, struck out, Austin Wells lashed his third homer of the year just inside the right field foul pole, getting the Yankee Stadium crowd to its feet once again.
Back on March 29, the season’s second game, the Yankees collected three straight homers to start the home first inning against the Milwaukee Brewers.
