Freshman point guard Zyree Collins danced his way into the lane and flicked the ball towards the rim where a waiting Rashuad Marshall slammed it home.
It was the same play the pairing attempted earlier in the game, but Marshall got clipped and ended up on the hardwood floor of VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
This time they connected, opening up an eight-point advantage with under five minutes remaining and the breathing room needed for No. 2 Austin Peay to escape No. 10 Stetson’s fierce resilience in their 69-60 quarterfinal victory.

The Governors had to overcome a first-half explosion by the Hatters, who ballooned to an early 14-point lead after Stetson made 7-of-16 shots from deep. But Austin Peay tightened their defense, holding Stetson to one 3-pointer in the second half and 8-of-26 overall in the contest.
The intensity on defense was key to the Governors’ comeback, but so was the emergence of Marshall, who lead Austin Peay with 21 points. He converted seven of his eight free throw attempts and shot 7-of-12 from the field to lead his team.
His effort on the boards created extra opportunities for Austin Peay and became a glaring issue for the Hatters as they were outrebounded 36-28 as a team. Another issue that sunk Stetson was the foul discrepancy in the contest.
The Hatters were called for 17 fouls compared to Austin Peay’s nine. Many of those fouls came on shot attempts, contributing to the Governors’ 16-of-20 makes from the stripe.
Still, Stetson was in the contest from start to finish. That’s largely thanks to junior guard Ethan Copeland’s 22 points on 7-of-16 shooting, lighting up the box sheet early for the Hatters.
Copeland led all scorers with 15 points going into the break and was on fire from deep. It looked like he’d will Stetson to an upset victory at one point.
But the Governors had other plans and will face Queens in the semifinals of the ASUN men’s basketball tournament on March 7.

That’s the mentality the No. 5 Florida Gulf Coast Eagles brought to the quarterfinals of the ASUN tournament as they defeated the No. 4 Lipscomb Bisons, 77-53.
It’s their first win against Lipscomb since 2022, guided by strong play from Rahmir Barno who scored a game-high 18 points. It was a bounce-back game of sorts for the junior point guard.
When the two teams met on Jan. 23, he scored four points in 26 minutes as the Eagles lost 86-71. But it was a different story on Friday as his leadership and timely buckets paced the Eagles. Isaiah Malone poured in 17 points with J.R. Konieczny’s 12 and Jordan Ellerbee’s 11 rounding out the scorers in double figures for FGCU.
Ross Candelino scored 17 points to lead the Bisons as they saw their season end. The Eagles will face top-seeded Central Arkansas on March 7 at 5 p.m. with the winner booking a spot in the ASUN men’s basketball championship final.
Atlantic Sun men's basketball player of the year Carmen Hunter came out focused. He put up 31 points and pushed the Central Arkansas Bears to an 86-73 victory against Bellarmine in the quarterfinals of the ASUN men’s basketball tournament.
The Bears shot 13-of-26 from beyond the arc, rattling in 50 percent of their attempts and creating a sizeable advantage in their favor. They outscored the Knights 23-6 in bench points and had a statement performance ahead of their semifinal matchup.
Luke Moore scored 14 points while Ty Robinson and Harry Beauchamp added 12 points each for the Bears. Jack Karasinski scored a team-high 23 points for Bellarmine with Brain Waddell and Tyler Doyle adding 15 and 12 points respectively.
With their win, Central Arkansas will face Florida Gulf Coast on March 7 in the ASUN men’s basketball semifinals.
No. 3 Queens was able to hold off No. 6 West Georgia in the night cap, 71-63. Nasir Mann’s 17 points and 12 rebounds was the difference as the Royals punched their ticket to the semifinals.
West Georgia struggled to score throughout the night, shooting 25-of-72 in the loss. They made three 3-pointers in 23 attempts, shooting 13 percent in their quarterfinal exit.
Queens held the lead for more than 39 minutes of action, a wire-to-wire victory for the North Carolinians. Carson Schwieger scored 14 points, Avantae Parker added 12 and Chris Ashby scored 10 points for the Royals.
The Wolves had four players score in double figures with Josh Smith (14), Kenneth Chime (13), Shelton Williams-Dryden (11) and Kolten Griffin (11) all earning high marks in their final game of the season.
