Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams set the NFL on fire last season with his impressive playmaking ability and his clutch play, which played a key role in the team's worst-to-first finish that included an 11-6 record, an NFC North title and a wild-card playoff win. But the former No. 1 pick is just getting started.
Williams is coming off an impressive first season with head coach Ben Johnson, where he set the franchise's single-season passing record (3,942 yards) and led seven fourth-quarter comebacks, including the playoffs, an NFL record. Williams' escapability proved to be one of his biggest strengths, as well as his deep ball, but there was still some to be desired in the short passing game and his completion percentage.
There are high expectations for Williams heading into 2026, as he continues to work with QB guru Johnson, and it's evident in how he's being perceived around the league. Williams is gracing the Madden 27 cover, and he's garnering respect around the league. Pro Football Focus ranked Williams as the 13th best quarterback heading into 2026, and there's plenty of room for him to grow.
The fact that Williams hasn't even neared his ceiling is plenty of reason to be excited about his potential as he continues to develop in the NFL. He's far from perfect and there are definitely areas of need where Johnson will focus. But Williams gets the benefit of consistency, working in the same offense for the first time in consecutive years in the NFL, valuable experience and an array of weapons that's sure to make this another top-five offense in the league.

Williams made the sophomore leap many hoped for after the Bears hired Ben Johnson as head coach. “Iceman” led Chicago to its first Divisional Round appearance in 15 years and recorded 37 big-time throws, second among NFL quarterbacks behind league MVP Matthew Stafford.
The cover athlete for Madden NFL 27 is still a bit of a gunslinger, as his negatively graded throw rate ranked 38th at the position. Even so, Williams is trending in the right direction and appears well on his way to living up to the immense expectations that came with being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
