One of the Alabama Crimson Tide's biggest rivals on the hardwood is reportedly trying to bring back its former men's basketball head coach.
According to multiple reports Wednesday, LSU is working to lure former coach Will Wade back to Baton Rouge after one just season at NC State. Doing so would mean LSU parting ways with Matt McMahon, who has long been on the hot seat. It would also mean rehiring a coach the school had already fired.
Wade coached LSU for five seasons and was fired ahead of the 2022 NCAA Tournament after the school received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA that detailed reports of five Level I violations. He led the Tigers to NCAA Tournament berths three times in a span of four years.
Wade received a two-year show-cause and a 10-game suspension in June 2023 after he'd been named head coach at McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He guided the Cowboys to a berth in the 2025 NCAA Tournament and a first-round upset of the No. 5 seed Clemson Tigers.
NC State officially announced the hiring of Wade to replace Kevin Keatts just one day after McNeese State's season ended with a second-round loss to Purdue in last year's NCAA Tournament.
Wade recently led the Wolfpack to an NCAA Tournament berth in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio. NC State lost on a last-second shot to the Texas Longhorns, who have since made a surprise run to the Sweet 16 after knocking off No. 6 seed BYU and No. 3 Gonzaga.
If Wade returns to Baton Rouge, he'll have no shortage of history against Alabama. He led the Tigers to the SEC Tournament's championship game in 2021, where they fell 80-79 to the Crimson Tide at the last second.
LSU has lost six straight games to Nate Oats' Alabama teams. The Tigers' last win over the Crimson Tide came on March 5, 2022, when Wade was in his final week as LSU's coach. Wade defeated Alabama four times as LSU's coach and compiled a 4-7 record in five seasons against the Tide.
According to Alabama's record books, the Crimson Tide have faced LSU a total of 194 times in series history since 1916. The only SEC team Alabama has faced more than LSU is Mississippi State with 216 all-time meetings between the Tide and Bulldogs.
Alabama, the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region, is gearing up for its Sweet 16 matchup against the No. 1 Michigan Wolverines in the NCAA Tournament. Alabama-Michigan is set to tip off at 6:35 p.m. CT Friday at United Center in Chicago. The game will be televised on both TBS and truTV.

Sources: LSU is working to hire McNeese's Heath Schroyer as a Senior Administrator.
The Tigers' head coaching job is not open, but LSU President Wade Rousse & Schroyer both previously hired NC State's Will Wade at McNeese & are on the verge of bringing him back to Baton Rouge.
