A back-and-forth contest was held in West Sacramento, as the Athletics came back late to win the series opener against the American League West-leading Seattle Mariners. The A's now sit one game behind the M's in the division.
The A's began the scoring, getting runs on the board in the first and second innings thanks to a Miguel Andujar sac fly and Jacob Wilson RBI single, respectively.
Seattle responded with with four runs in the top of the third. A Jorge Polanco RBI single and Rowdy Tellez RBI double tied the game 2-2. Miles Mastrobuni caught a first-pitch fastball high and tight and smacked an RBI single to center field. Ben Williamson capped the inning with a line drive RBI single to put the M's up two runs.
Shea Langeliers led off the bottom half of the fourth with a solo home run, his seventh of the year, and Lawrence Butler provided a clutch two-out RBI single to tie the game again. Langeliers came up in the seventh with runners on the corners and one out and took a 0-1 cutter to right, which was just enough to drive in Brent Rooker and give the A's a 5-4 edge.
Williamson tacked on a clutch second RBI of the night with a single to tie the game 5-5 in the top of the eighth.
The M's took advantage in their first turn in extras as Miles Mastrobuoni hit a sac fly to give Seattle a 6-5 lead, but the A's responded with Jacob Wilson smacking an RBI single to tie the game 6-all in the bottom of the 10th.
Wilson would come up again in the 11th to put a stake in the Mariners' heart as he smacked a 0-2 changeup passed the shift, and the Athletics completed the walk-off against Seattle to take the series opener by a final of 7-6.
