Kaplan ruining the entire staff.
Just can’t understand why you guys continue to take the lazy route to laying blame…
So Kaplan is now the cause for JMart’s stiff elbow? How ‘bout Burns? Puk too? Or did Kaplan just have thing for JMart?

What specifically is Kaplan doing to cause you to spew this crap? And yes, whatever those things are that he’s doing to cause injury to the pitchers, we can certainly rest assured knowing he likely got his instructions from Torey… as I doing this right?

It's already been reported that one of his biggest things was to get the pitchers to increase their velocity. There must be something to the technique he's teaching that's impacting their elbows. This isn't the lazy route at all.

I can't seem to locate any "reports" to support your claim that Kaplan's "biggest thing" was to get pitchers to increase their velocity.
Kaplan is a health freak and was an athletic trainer before getting into coaching. Doesn't mean he's not somehow involved, however, as of today, thus far this season there have been more than 125 pitchers that have spent time on the Injured List!

You're gonna have to work really hard to support Kaplan is somehow doing something that all of the other pitching coaches aren't. Otherwise, you'll have to accept the truth - which is Kaplan has zero to do with Dbacks pitchers getting hurt.

Increase in velocity was reported on at two game broadcasts in the last couple of weeks.

LOL... Clearly, Kaplan is trading late night text messages with just about every other pitching coach in the league! Enjoy...

Further to my point… said perfectly bd I agree with every word, especially the part about youth playing baseball fulltime, as opposed to playing other sports:

It is interesting that you picked the youth baseball part out, but ignored the first two points that are coaching related (Pitch selection and velocity).

Do they have youth fulltime baseball in the Dominican?

Does Kaplan coach all pitchers in MLB? This is about you dudes attacking Kaplan as if he’s solely to blame. Gallen can fall down the steps tonight and break an ankle and your first post will be to pin it on Kaplan.
Kaplan is no more at fault than any other high school, college, minor league or major league pitching coach.
Further, do you actually believe that the rise in velocity over the years is simply because a coach says, “You must throw harder, or else?” Merrill Kelly seems pretty damn effective… what, is he the only guy who’s giving Kaplan the middle finger?

MLB, NOT PITCHING COACHES, has glamorized velocity. Pitchers grow up dreaming of throwing a baseball at speeds in the high 90’s and into triple-digit.
Hence, the author’s suggestions of making changes to the game and not the coaching, because the coaching isn’t the problem!

It was a few years back and the Dbacks were one of the worst hitting teams in the league and it was due to how the coaches wanted the hitters to approach their time at the plate.

Wait, you're telling me a coach can impact what a player does?

And once again, the diamondback third base coach sends a runner when he shouldn’t of, and gets thrown out at home plate

So who’s fault is it when the Diamondbacks keep getting runners thrown out at home plate?

Even the radio guys knew it was a dumb thing to do.

Fire Larkin, too. I'm tired of seeing dudes thrown out at home game after game. He has no feel at all. Last night he was trying to hold Perdomo at 3rd and he was able to score easily....Tonight, Gerry didn't have a prayer and he's being waived home.

Ok… there it is. You’ve convinced me that because coaches will try to influence a hitter’s approach at the plate, Kaplan is causing all of the injuries. :D

Seriously Chris… just this year alone there have been 181 pitchers that have seen the IL. Yet, Kaplan is especially to blame.
I’ve always seen you as one of the more level-headed and intelligent posters here… disappointing to see you fall into this unfounded and utterly ridiculous blame game.

Haven’t seen much from Larkin to suggest he should be around after this season, that’s for sure!

It's not just the injuries. You are picking one thing

Far more damning is 80% of the staff having below career average years.

Well that’s an entirely different story dude! This debate started because a few posters here directly blamed Kaplan for the injuries.
If your issue is that the pitching staff is underperforming, THAT is a convo worth having!
