McVay told reporters he is feeling confident about the players acquired through free agency and trades, like defensive end Myles Garrett and cornerbacks Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson. He said the rookies, like quarterback Ty Simpson, are doing well but are still learning how to adjust to the NFL.

“Up to this point, I feel really good about the NFL guys, whether it’s through free agency or trades that we’ve added. Our rookies are getting very familiar. There’s a lot being thrown at them in a short amount of time. They’re way behind the curve. They’re way behind in terms of just the overall teaching progression but they’re learning.

“Ty, like the rest of the rookies, are doing a really nice job but overall, I’ve been really pleased but it’s how we come together as a team,” McVay said.

McVay Says There Is Still Lots of Work to Do

With all new additions to the team, the Rams are considered the favorites to win the Super Bowl next season at SoFi Stadium. Although McVay is happy with how the team is looking so far, he said the Rams still have a lot of work to do.

“We have so much work to do but I’ve really enjoyed working with this team,” McVay said. “I’ve really appreciated the sense of urgency from both the players and the coaches and that’s all we can do at this time of the year. My goal is to just maximize every single day and continue to stack blocks. We’ve talked about the offseason really being about fundamentals and setting good foundations and we’re in the midst of doing that right now.”

The Rams begin their three-day mini camp on June 16 and have their first preseason game on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs on Aug. 15.
