After missing all of training camp last year due to back issues, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will take things slow this time around. The NFL's reigning MVP will slowly acclimate into team activities, with his health being the priority in how the team manages his participation.

According to Rams reporter Stu Jackson, head coach Sean McVay said Saturday that the goal for the team is to have him ready for Week 1, and he will miss multiple practices during the team's first training block of camp.

Sean McVay said Rams QB Matthew Stafford is healthy, but won't practice Sunday as part of the modified schedule they have for him with a goal of keeping him "fresh and ready to go" for Week 1.

With Stafford sidelined for Day 1, fans and reporters will get a first look at the team's QB2 battle between Ty Simpson and Stetson Bennett. Simpson, the Rams' first-round selection, will have his work cut out for him as Bennett has played within the offensive system for years, starting in multiple preseason games.

For Stafford, it remains unclear if his participation will increase as camp progresses.
