The Seattle Seahawks swapped cornerbacks on Wednesday afternoon, signing Jordan Washington and releasing Brandon Johnson. Seahawks.com's Ari Horton published the official announcement here at 1:45 p.m. PST.
The announcement also confirmed the signing of running back T.J. Harden, which Ian Rapoport reported just eleven minutes before the official announcement. The article also reports the release of outside linebacker Garrett Nelson in the corresponding move. Harden likely profiles as a short-term replacement at fullback while Robbie Ouzts is injured.
Washington spent rookie minicamp with the Seahawks after going undrafted out of Stanford. He spent his senior season there after four years at Dartmouth. It's fair to say having two of the top five academic colleges in the United States on his résumé helped push it to the top of the stack. When compared with his athletic testing numbers, though, it's also clear why he's more of a fringe prospect than a sure thing. He has plus arm length and hand size but lacks the speed and agility to separate from other prospects. He doesn't have a standout athletic trait that scouts can point to. He also only played 155 snaps in his draft year.
Washington and Harden both started on Southern California high school fields. Washington went to IMG Academy and JSerra Catholic before Dartmouth and Stanford. Harden ran through Narbonne and Inglewood High School as an underrated three-star recruit before UCLA took a chance on him, then ended up at SMU. Both journeymen have opportunities to stick in Seattle, but they'll need to turn heads to do so with the defending Super Bowl champions.
