The Seattle Seahawks are always looking for any edge to improve their roster. General manager John Schneider definitely employs a "no stone unturned" mentality when it comes to his team. Sometimes, this is merely just taking a look at a player. Maybe they take a phone call or hold a meeting, and that's as far as it goes.
However, sometimes it's quite a bit more than "just doing our due diligence." Sometimes, the stone gets turned over by a rock collector. Such appears to be the case with former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold.
Arnold is currently a free agent after being released by Detroit following his arrest for kidnapping and robbery with a deadly weapon - where he is facing eight total felony charges! Seattle was among a handful of teams that met with Arnold in early July. Keep in mind, we initially found out about this meeting because it was revealed in a court hearing. At the time, I remember writing about "due diligence" and how the Seahawks are "in on every call" when it comes to acquiring new players. But now, Seattle has had second meeting with Arnold, per NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.
Clearly, the interest on both sides is more than just a passing fancy.
If the Seahawks are truly looking to sign Arnold, it looks like they have competition. He is on his way to meet with the New Orleans Saints, after previously meeting with the Houston Texans as well.
Seattle showing this much interest in Arnold does make me wonder just how far along the contract negotiations with Devon Witherspoon are. In the first episode of Hard Knocks, we got a sense the negotiations might be a bit trickier than previously anticipated. Could the Seahawks be potentially concerned Witherspoon might be planning to sit out if a deal is not achieved yet? Currently, Witherspoon is practicing, but we know how tenuous these negotiations can be.
Ultimately, this is just conjecture. But still, Seattle showing this much interest in Terrion Arnold is something worth monitoring. Personally, I feel like someone with eight felony charges for serious crimes he is alleged to have committed does not seem like a culture fit for a team built on high-character men.
But as always, innocent until proven guilty.
