One of the best, and most beloved, players on the Seattle Seahawks is defensive tackle Leonard "Big Cat" Williams. He's only been with the Seahawks since mid-2023, but he's made an incredible impact on both the field and the hearts of the 12th Man. But could Sunday's Super Bowl against the New England Patriots be the last we see of Big Cat?
On Monday, Williams posted a brief highlight reel of himself on Twitter with only one caption: "the last dance."
Look, before we hit the panic button, "the last dance" could just as easily mean "the Super Bowl is the last game we are playing this year." However, in modern parlance, the phrase "last dance" often has strong connotations to retirement, one final appearance, one last ride, etc. Bottom line... a sense of finality.
It seems unlikely for a player like Williams, who is at the absolute top of his game, to call it quits at this point. Yes, he will be 32 this summer and he's already spent 11 years in the league, but he's also coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl years and earning second team All-Pro honors. That being said, perhaps winning a Super Bowl might be the final cherry on top to a stellar career, and he may want to sail off into the sunset with the best possible ending imaginable.
Of course, perhaps there is another angle to this. Williams signed a three-year contract extension with the Seahawks prior to the 2024 season, and 2026 will be the final year of his current deal. Seattle has a firm stance of not negotiating new contracts with more than a year remaining, so he is eligible to renegotiate this summer. Maybe a well-deserved raise and more years of job security might be enough to convince him to return for year 12.
