SOUTH BERWICK, Maine - Anna Jennings delivered an efficient and impactful performance as the Marshwood High School girls lacrosse team opened its season on Thursday with a 17-5 win over Class B Biddeford.

The Marshwood sophomore had three goals and three assists for the Class A Hawks. Marshwood head coach Bernie Marvin said Jennings was given a huge responsibility this year, leading the transition offense in the midfield.

"(Jennings) is the fastest north to south player I've ever coached," Marvin said. "She's also a huge part of our ride with her ability to disrupt the opponent's plays with her ability to overtake players not expecting pressure. Along with this midfield play, she is learning to be grittier on defense and patient with opportunities on offense. Her huge jump from occasional play at attack as a freshman to midfield starter on the draw circle as a sophomore is very impressive."

Jennings said it felt great being back on the field for the season opener.

"I’ve worked hard during the off-season, so it was great to see it pay off," Jennings said. "I am very excited about the opportunity to grow with the team this year. We have such a strong group, and I can't wait to continue building chemistry and pushing each other to get better each game. This first one really set the tone for us. It's a great foundation to build on for the rest of the season, and we're all hungry to keep the momentum going."
