Scotland competed at their first World Cup of the 21st century this year when they travelled to North America.

As expected, the Scots did not make it out of their group, but despite only playing three matches, their travelling fans enjoyed themselves in America.

They spent most of their time in Boston, and after taking over the city and drinking all their beer, they have now escorted a traffic cone all the way from Glasgow to Boston to celebrate their relationship.

Scotland send traffic cone to Boston to celebrate World Cup

Scotland fans in America made a habit of placing traffic cones onto statues around Boston during the World Cup.

Now, as per 7 News Boston, the Scots sent a traffic cone all the way from Glasgow to the Boston Logan International Airport.

Massachusetts governor Maura Healey was there to receive the gift and said: “I have to admit, this is probably, yes, it is, my first official welcoming ceremony for a traffic cone.

“But it’s a pretty special one, isn’t it? Because this cone tells the story of what happened this summer. What happened in Boston, what happened in Massachusetts.”

One of the Scottish people who brought the cone over also commented, saying: “It’s an in-joke that’s gone too far, actually. But no, it isn’t a joke. This is a metaphor for life.

“This is not just a silly cone. It means love. It means love, and that is the whole point.”

As well as sending the cone, Glasgow and Boston are officially becoming twin cities, with a formal agreement expected to be put in place from April 2027.
