NEED TO KNOW
- Scotland's coach was not happy after the team lost 3-0 to Brazil in the World Cup
- Manager Steve Clarke walked out of an post-match interview with BBC Sport
- "We made it difficult for ourselves," he said
Scotland’s coach was not having it after losing 3-0 to Brazil in the World Cup on Wednesday.
Steve Clarke walked off mid-interview with the BBC Sport after the team’s loss made its future in the tournament uncertain.
“We made it difficult for ourselves, that’s it,” Clarke, 62, told reporter Eilidh Barbour.
He added, “We gave them the goals, we gave them the game they wanted. Disappointing.”
When the BBC reporter asked how he was dealing with the reality that Scotland could be locked out of the knockout stage, he was apologetic — and abrupt.
“Sorry, I don’t even want to think about that,” the coach said and quickly shut down the interview.

Scotland’s poor play was mitigated by the outstanding play of Brazil’s Vinícius Júnior, who scored two goals. Matheus Cunha added another goal to net the team the top spot in Group C in Miami.

Now, Scotland will need a little help from other teams to advance. The team began the tournament with a 1-0 win over Haiti on June 13, but then lost to Morocco 0-1. Now with this loss, Scotland will finish third in their group and have to hope that the third-place teams in other groups have a worse goal differential to squeak their way in.
