There are plenty of reasons for Los Angeles Lakers fans to hope that LeBron James will stick around for next season. According to at least one report, James, who is about to become a free agent, would like to remain a member of the Lakers, and the Lakers would like to keep him.
But, of course, James wearing a Purple and Gold uniform this fall is anything but a foregone conclusion. If he leaves Los Angeles, he could end up returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers, his original team and the franchise he was with for 11 years over two different stints.
NBA reporter Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson said during an appearance on the "BIGPLAY Cleveland Show" that James and the Cavaliers are both interested in a reunion.
Right now, the Cavs have a team that one could argue would win the NBA championship were it to add James, even at age 41. Cleveland experienced a historic collapse on Tuesday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals when it blew a 22-point lead in the fourth quarter and lost in overtime to the New York Knicks in overtime.
James Harden had yet another bad performance in a big game by going 5-of-16 from the field and committing six turnovers. If James were involved, Cleveland would've likely held on for a victory.
The problem for the Cavs, as far as going after James, is that they're currently slammed against the second apron of the salary cap. They would have to do some significant maneuvering just to offer the four-time MVP the taxpayer mid-level exception of roughly $5.6 million.

“LeBron has not made a decision one way or the other about his future,” Robinson said. “But the Cavaliers and LeBron do have mutual interest in a return.”
