DYERSVILLE, Iowa (AP) — Kyle Schwarber smashed two home runs into the corn behind right field to stretch his major league -leading total to 37, as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Minnesota Twins 7-1 on Thursday night in the first game at the Field of Dreams movie site in four years.
Schwarber sent the third pitch from Twins right-hander Taj Bradley (9-5) into the cornfield that frames the picturesque backdrop for the uniquely rural regular-season game. The four-time All-Star, who has 224 homers in just five years with the Phillies, followed with a two-run stalk shot in the fourth inning that right fielder Luke Keaschall nearly caught above the wall but had glance off his glove.
Brandon Marsh added a two-run homer in the seventh to back Aaron Nola (4-9) in the right-hander’s first victory in 15 starts since May 26.
Keaschall, who recently transitioned from second base to right field, homered in the second inning and reached base three times. The Twins went 0 for 5 with runners in scoring position.
Nola matched his season high with nine strikeouts over five innings. Marsh reached base four times, Luis Arraez had three hits and Bryson Stott drove in a run as the Phillies (65-58) moved a half-game ahead of Arizona for the third NL wild card.
Bradley, who hasn’t won since a three-start winning streak he took into the All-Star break, matched his shortest start of the season with four innings.
TIGERS 3, GUARDIANS 0
DETROIT (AP) — Keider Montero pitched three-hit ball into the seventh inning and Detroit blanked Cleveland despite failing to record a strikeout.
The Tigers became the first team to blank an opponent without a strikeout since Rick Porcello did it to the Athletics on July 1, 2014. The feat has only been accomplished seven times since 2000.
Montero (9-7) allowed one walk over 6 1/3 innings, holding the Guardians scoreless despite not recording a strikeout. Tyler Holton worked 1 2/3 strong innings, and Kenley Jansen earned his 15th save in a perfect ninth.
Dillon Dingler drove in the game’s first run with an RBI groundout in the third before Eduardo Valencia added his fifth homer of the season on a ball that sailed into the left-field seats.
Spencer Torkelson capped the scoring with a one-run single in the eighth.
Parker Messick (9-7) worked 5 2/3 innings for the Guardians, allowing two runs and three hits while fanning six.
Cleveland’s Steven Kwan had his career-high on-base streak of 27 games snapped, finishing 0 for 4.
PIRATES 13, MARLINS 1
MIAMI (AP) — Braxton Ashcraft threw a complete-game three-hitter, Rafael Flores had a pair of three-run homers and Pittsburgh beat Miami.
Jared Triolo and Jacob Gonzalez also went deep for the Pirates, who snapped a three-game skid. Pittsburgh’s Jake Mangum went 3 for 4 with three runs scored.
Ashcraft (12-5) struck out 10 and walked one in his 85-pitch outing. The right-hander, who was aided by three double plays, faced the minimum until Owen Caissie homered to lead off the ninth.
Ashcraft became the first Pirate to throw a nine-inning complete since Mitch Keller against the Los Angeles Angels on May 26, 2024. He also was the first Pirate to complete a game under 100 pitches since Ivan Nova accomplished the feat against Miami on April 29, 2017.
The Pirates’ Nick Gonzales had a walk and two singles. His two singles increased Gonzales’ multi-hit games to a major league-leading 48.
The Pirates broke through with a two-run fifth off Tyler Phillips (3-6). Mangum hit a leadoff triple and scored on a balk by Phillips. Triolo followed with his second homer of the season. Triolo went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
REDS 9, WHITE SOX 8
CHICAGO (AP) — Sal Stewart, Eugenio Suárez and Tyler Stephenson homered, and Cincinnati held off Chicago.
Stewart scored four times and Suárez drove in four runs as Cincinnati took the rubber game in the three-game series. Tejay Antone (2-0) pitched a scoreless inning for the win, and Julian Garcia worked a shaky ninth for his second save.
Randal Grichuk had three RBIs for Chicago, which had won three of four. Chase Meidroth and Sam Antonacci each had two hits and scored two runs.
Edgar Quero hit an RBI single for the AL Central leaders in the ninth, but Antonacci bounced to shortstop for the final out.
White Sox right-hander Davis Martin was ejected after threw up and in on Stewart on consecutive pitches leading off the third, hitting the rookie slugger with the second one. Both benches and bullpens cleared, but order was quickly restored.
Stewart hit a 419-foot solo shot in the first for his 26th homer. Stephenson was hit by a pitch with two outs, and Suárez made it 3-0 with a two-run drive to left for his 18th of the season.
Grichuk hit a two-run double in Chicago’s three-run second, but Suárez hit a tying sacrifice fly in the third and Cincinnati added four more in the fourth.

NEW YORK (AP) — Logan Gilbert pitched six innings and combined with three relievers on a four-hitter as Seattle ended a six-game skid with a victory over New York.
Weston Wilson homered in the second inning off Max Fried (4-4) to send the Mariners to just their sixth win in 21 games. Seattle (57-65) moved within five games of the AL West-leading Astros heading into a weekend series at Houston.
Gilbert (9-7) held the Yankees to four hits in his fifth scoreless start this season. The right-hander struck out seven and walked one.
Two of Gilbert’s strikeouts were successful ABS challenges in the sixth. He retired Trent Grisham and Spencer Jones on pitches originally called ball four by plate umpire Rob Drake.
Gilbert ended his outing by striking out Luis García Jr. on a splitter and pounded his glove in celebration as he walked off the mound.
Eduard Bazardo stranded two by striking out pinch-hitter Amed Rosario on a successful ABS challenge. Jose A. Ferrer retired pinch-hitter Heliot Ramos to end the eighth and Andrés Muñoz struck out two for his 21st save.

TORONTO (AP) — Standout rookie Payton Tolle allowed two hits over eight innings, Caleb Durbin hit a grand slam and Boston ended its five-game skid with a victory over Toronto.
Tolle (8-6) struck out four, threw 91 pitches and retired his last 17 batters while matching the longest outing of his career. Greg Weissert worked the ninth.
Boston’s skid matched its worst of the season, but the Red Sox remain comfortably in position for an AL wild-card playoff berth. They also lost five straight after losing their season opener.
Boston had won nine straight before dropping two at home to the Athletics and the first three of the series at Toronto.
The Red Sox led 1-0 before Durbin broke the game open in the eighth, hitting a 1-0 sweeper from Chase Lee into the Blue Jays’ bullpen in left. Durbin also had an RBI single in the ninth on his 3-for-5 day.
Willson Contreras had an RBI single in the first inning against Max Scherzer (1-5), who surpassed 3,000 career innings. The 42-year-old worked five innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four. Scherzer and Justin Verlander are the only active players in the majors to pitch 3,000 innings.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Cade Cavalli took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and Washington beat Chicago to avoid a three-game sweep.
Michael Busch delivered the Cubs’ lone hit with an opposite-field bloop single to left with two outs in the seventh. The Nationals Park crowd then applauded Cavalli, who was trying to throw Washington’s first no-hitter since Max Scherzer did it twice in 2015.
Cavalli (10-5), who turns 28 on Friday, retired the first 15 batters before walking Dansby Swanson to open the sixth. Swanson was quickly erased on Michael Conforto’s double-play grounder.
Cavalli walked Swanson again with two outs in the eighth, but struck out Conforto looking to finish his day. The right-hander struck out 10 while setting career highs in innings (eight) and pitches (103).
Clayton Beeter worked a perfect ninth for Washington.
The Nationals didn’t muster a baserunner against Kevin Gausman (6-11) until Abimelec Ortiz’s one-out single in the fourth. Two pitches later, Dylan Crews laced an RBI double to left-center.
Washington’s first two men in the fifth reached base before Andrew Pinckney’s sacrifice fly. After CJ Abrams singled, Ortiz hit a three-run shot to right-center to make it 5-0. Daylen Lile added an RBI single later in the inning to end Gausman’s day.
