Schlotterbeck denies media reports about Dortmund contract extension

Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck has denied media reports suggesting that a contract extension with the club was imminent.

"I have to categorically deny that. Unfortunately, we’re not there yet," he said after Germany's 2-1 win against Ghana on Monday evening.

Schlotterbeck's current deal with Dortmund runs until 2027 and both parties have been in talks over an extension for a while.

Dortmund managing director for sport Lars Ricken told dpa on Tuesday that "Nico's comments are understandable."

"We haven't confirmed a breakthrough nor an agreement, so the recent media reports have actually come as a surprise to us," he said.

Ricken added: "Our fundamental goal of keeping him at Dortmund for the long term has not changed. We are continuing to work toward that."

Broadcaster Sky recently reported that Schlotterbeck had reached an agreement with Dortmund to extend his contract until 2031.

According to reports, the defender is, however, still in talks with other top clubs such as Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

The player admitted that the situation has "changed a bit" following the departure of sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

The club parted ways with Kehl earlier this month and he was replaced by Ole Book.

"I probably would have made a decision in the coming weeks, but now the situation has changed a bit," he said.
