Sarver sells or championship?

If you could only have one:

  • Suns win championship in 2022

  • Sarver sells Suns in 2022

Would you give up a guaranteed 2022 championship in exchange for Sarver selling the team?

If the Suns win a championship in 2022 everyone walks away happy. That's what Suns fans have been waiting to happen.

I deal with reality
Lol... then why comment on the thread?

If they won the title this year, Sarver could literally burn down the building and I’d be fine with him staying on as GM because we will have achieved the best there is to offer in sports and what I’m quickly starting to believe will never happen.

Oh, who am I kidding. I’ve believed that will never happen for decades!

One. Just one is all I want. I got used to really no caring about basketball in the last decade. I could get used to that again if we reached nirvana and I was there to witness it.

Pretty much did that with the D-Backs. There was literally no way that team could EVER top the 2001 World Series, especially since I went to every home World Series game and it was one of the most epic championship matchups in any sport ever with all the most incredible drama both on and off the field with 9/11 and the Yanks and seemingly the entire world against us. Haven’t really cared about the D-Backs since. I mean, when they’re good I’ll pay a little attention and watch them in the playoffs if they get there but there’s no pain involved in any kind of loss at this point.

That said, baseball is my third favorite sport and it ain’t close to Football or basketball. And good basketball does make the absence of the NFL go by much quicker.

But yeah... give me one and Sarver could move the team for all I care at that point.

I would rather have a chance at multiple championships in the future, which won't be possible under Sarver.

Lol. I responded because I wanted to. I was at the Sun’s first game and have been through all the heartbreak over the years. But you are going to question why I respond? Of course we would take a GUARANTEED championship. No one cares about Sarver. I can’t believe you could entertain such an absurd post.

90% of the posts today were about how bad Sarver sucks. I was just curious to see how many people would give up one championship if it meant getting rid of Sarver and increased the chance of future championships.

As a Suns fan since 1968 of course I would take a championship. No one cares about Sarver but himself. 70 years ago I was born in Phoenix and we have one major championship which we mortgaged for more than a decade. I humbly would like to see a few more in my lifetime. The Cards loss in Tampa still haunts me. We were hugging each other at the game after Fitz’s TD but it was not to be. Sorry for sounding disrespectful but this subject really hits home.

Just seems like you could have just responded to the thread with that last sentence instead of coming off with condese...

Forget it.

i get it. I went to 90% of all home games in the 80‘s and 90’s with my dad so the Suns me tons to me. I actually voted that I would choose for Sarver to sell the team over a 2022 championship for this reason: I believe that if the Suns won a championship this year it would be one of the greatest (non family related) moments of my life. The problem is that I am convinced that Sarver would follow it up with some stupid decision that would take some of the joy of the Suns championship away. And he would continue to do things that would keep chipping away at that moment until i was back to being so frustrated that I couldn’t even really feel the joy of the championship anymore. Maybe I am falling for the birds in the bush by tossing away the one in my hand, but I believe that Sarver has continuously tainted the reputation of the Suns, and I just want my once proud and respected franchise back.

I want a championship. I want to watch good Suns basketball every season. Watching good basketball every season means even more to me than winning a championship. So, if getting rid of Sarver costs us our only chance to ever win it all but promises a future of mostly successful seasons, I'd dump Sarver (in a happy heartbeat). But that's not what the OP asked so I guess, yes, give us the championship this season even if it means we are stuck with our owner for years to come.

At this point TBO id rather have anyone than Sarver as owner.
On the other hand
This team may be the best Suns team in history.

I'm gonna enjoy the ride while we still have a car.

I am 100% with you. This season should be fun and I’m just going to sit back and enjoy it.

I'd say the Suns have a 10-20% chance of winning the title this year, about as good of odds as any team non-super team could hope for.

I also think there is a zero percent chance that Sarver sells. I think he enjoys being an NBA owner immensely and he especially enjoys the virtually guaranteed profits.

We're stuck with Sarver until scandal or time force the issue.

I just want to enjoy this totally unexpected contender while I can and not sweat the virtually impossible.

All this over not paying the MAX to someone who if offered the MAX prior to the playoffs the same exact posts would still be on here lol
I Get It but it's hard believing Ayton is a MAX player right now...he had an amazing playoffs but can he do this day in day out like a MAX player should? Hard to say. I see both sides and it sucks.

Always take the Championship, but I’d hope he decides to sell the team at its apex

The market indicates that he’s a max player. Once MPJ signed his contract, his value was locked in.

I would always pick a championship. I also don't really care about Sarver that much. There is no evidence that Jones doesn't have free reign to do things he needs to do because of Sarver. This is all speculation with zero evidence. Frankly, I don't understand the delay with Ayton's contract, but people are acting as if the sky is falling. We don't know what's going on. We can all probably agree that this is not an optimal situation, but the sky is not falling. Let's see how this plays out.

I think Sarver gets far more heat here and from the media than he deserves but he's his own worst enemy. I'd love to have an owner with deeper pockets, someone that isn't arrogant enough to think that the business world is the same whether it's pro sports or banking. But yeah, winning it all is the absolute goal and putting up with our foam-fingered goat enthusiast is a small price to pay for that first title.

I am always going to pick title but this is likely the last window with Sarver in the next two years. Think about how long it took us to get back to being a contender. Think about the fact that both times he interjected needlessly. If we don't get it done in this window I hope he sells. I am starting to think he sells the team before we win a title. Just when I think Sarver has changed?!?!

I agree with most of your basketball takes, but I would say that the history of the Robert Sarver ownership is the primary factor for why most of us are annoyed by this story.

It also doesn't help that we have all witnesses DOZENS of less deserving guys get big contracts in the past five years or so.

It's a stretch to say Ayton deserves a max, but it's not a huge one.

To play Devil's advocate, what if Ayton's personality is the reason? Maybe the current GM/Coach/owner understand that what we've seen from Ayton so far took significant investment to pull this level of production out of him. If that's the case, what's going to stop him from playing mediocre basketball once he gets generational wealth?
