BOSTON — The Boston Celtics put a historic beatdown on the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, shooting a season-high 66.7% from the field en route to a 148-111 victory at TD Garden. This extremely efficient showing for the C's marked their second-highest field goal percentage in a game in franchise history, which is especially impressive given the increased level of shot difficulty in the NBA in recent years.
For example, the Celtics attempted 34 triples against the Nets and tried just 3 against the Golden State Warriors on Nov. 21, 1984, when Boston set its current single-game field goal percentage record. None of these numbers particularly stood out to Celtics wing Sam Hauser, though. He was more impressed by the fact that the Celtics got every player involved in their dominant win on Friday.
"When everybody feels like they have a piece in the win, it's pretty special," he said at shootaround on Sunday morning at the Auerbach Center. "The ball was moving, we were running in transition, we were fighting to get a good look on every possession, and it didn't really matter who was shooting. I think that was the coolest part about it."
A whopping 13 players entered the contest, and all 13 scored at least 2 points. Hauser himself had 13 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in almost 27 minutes, but he didn't spend the game peering at the scoreboard.
"In the game, you don't really notice," Hauser said of Boston's best offensive outing of the season. "I know we made a lot of shots, made a lot of threes, but you're not necessarily looking up at the stats and checking the percentages and all that."
Replicating a performance like that will be difficult for the Celtics, but they'll aim for something similar on Sunday evening when they host the rival Philadelphia 76ers. The 39-20 C's haven't faced the 33-26 Sixers since Nov. 11, so they'll be eager to show their Atlantic Division foes how much they've improved since that 102-100 defeat last fall.
