The New Orleans Saints have had the chance to get up close and personal with many of the 2025 NFL draft prospects, via private workouts, official 30 visits, and pro-day appearances. This will continue to occur throughout the remaining weeks leading up to the draft, as they attempt to solidify their draft board ahead of the big event.
One of the players they recently had the chance to scout is South Dakota tight end JJ Galbreath, as was stated in a report by Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda, their staff actually took part in running the drills. From Pauline: "Graded as a PFA coming into the season, Galbreath measured 6-foot-3.5 inches and 238 pounds. He timed the 40 in the low-to-mid 4.6-second area and touched 38 inches in the vertical jump and 10-foot-3 in the broad jump. The New Orleans Saints ran his position drills."
This information can be confirmed by the official times from the South Dakota pro day, which state he had 12 bench press reps, a 4.61-second 40-yard dash, a 38-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot-3 broad jump, and a 4.20-second 20-yard shuttle. This was a solid performance given his large frame and shows his athleticism is not something to be concerned about whatsoever. His 8.39 Relative Athletic Score should clear the Saints' in-house metrics.
As for his statistical production, Galbreath was very solid in 2024, putting up 32 receptions for 469 yards (14.7 average) and 4 touchdowns, as opposed to 36 receptions for 579 yards (16.1 average) and 5 touchdowns in 2023. It is also worth noting he did miss multiple games in 2024 due to injury, only playing 10 including the two FCS Championship games.
While not absolutely mind-boggling, his stats prove he can be a consistent and reliable receiving option on top of a serviceable blocker. He is someone to keep an eye on for the Saints, as his stock has improved in the last two years and he could have worked himself into a draft-day selection.
