Saints Legend Michael Thomas Makes Feelings Clear on Matt Miller As ESPN Analyst Faces Backlash for Fraud Allegations

What began as an outpouring of support for Matt Miller after a devastating car crash that resulted in the amputation of his left arm has since taken a dramatic turn. The longtime ESPN analyst is now facing multiple fraud allegations from people who claim he misled followers through various paid ventures.

The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has since opened an investigation into the allegations, while ESPN has placed Miller on indefinite leave. Despite the growing backlash, former New Orleans Saints star Michael Thomas is standing firmly behind him.

Miller was involved in a near-fatal car accident on June 17. He was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri, and underwent a life-saving amputation of his left arm, along with surgeries for a compound femur fracture, a shattered kneecap, and multiple broken ribs.

On Friday, Miller shared an update on his health and career, revealing that the “surgery to remove my left arm was successful with hopes of an eventual prosthetic replacement. Similarly, the femur and patella surgeries were also successful and the fantastic surgery team was able to save my left leg.”

Miller also announced that, in order to focus on his recovery, he was “stepping away indefinitely and will be placed on leave from ESPN.” He did not specify whether the leave was related to the ongoing investigation or solely to his medical recovery.

He also disabled replies to the post, allowing only select accounts to comment. Thomas was among them, expressing gratitude for the support Miller gave him during the 2016 NFL Draft process before the Saints selected him in the second round.

“speedy recovery. I still remember when I was coming out of college how much you supported me. It was like everything you said turned out to be true. Hopefully I can do the same for you boss. ,” Thomas posted.

ESPN’s lead NFL insider, Adam Schefter, also wished a speedy recovery, but Miller’s decision to turn the comments off only made people more suspicious, with many calling him out by quote-tweeting him.

The allegations came to light after Miller’s crash when his family launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical costs. The fundraising target initially stood at $10,000, then increased to $30,000, and eventually reached its current goal of $55,000.

Those changes raised questions among some supporters, and not long afterward, accusations against Miller began circulating online, with many people claiming they never received winnings from charity fantasy leagues, while others said they paid for scouting lessons or newsletter subscriptions but received little or no response.

According to several of those individuals, refunds or responses only came after they warned Miller they planned to contact ESPN directly. The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has since confirmed it is investigating the allegations.

While none of the allegations have been proven yet, Awful Announcing reported that more than 40 people had contacted the outlet with similar claims. ESPN had not publicly addressed the allegations before placing Miller on indefinite leave, a move that has only prompted further questions.
