The St. Paul Saints’ offense thrived during a prolonged road trip, including a 16-run outburst eight games ago.
It didn’t take St. Paul long to show the run scoring would continue at home.
The Saints scored eight runs in the first inning on Tuesday to beat Columbus 10-5 in the opener of a six-game series at CHS Field. St. Paul got a home run from Alex Jackson and now leads the International League with 70 homers in 39 games.
Kyler Fedko led the Saints with three hits. Jackson, Orlando Arcia, Hendry Mendez and Ben Ross each had two hits as St. Paul posted 13 hits as a team.
The Saints have now won four games in a row and eight of nine. They’ve scored double-digit runs five times in that span.
Five pitchers enjoyed the run support. John Klein started on the mound and allowed one run in three innings. Marco Raya (2-3) pitched two scoreless innings to earn the win.
