Draft prospects are racking up their frequent flier miles this spring, and the New Orleans Saints brought in one of the top pass rushers in the 2025 NFL draft for an official 30 visit. Georgia's Mykel Williams visited the Saints along with seven other teams for his pre-draft tour, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Widely considered a top-20 selection in this year's draft, Williams is one of the most polished players at the edge rusher position. Tallying 14 sacks over his three years at Georgia may not "wow" you on the stat sheet, but Williams brings completeness at the position. An incredibly sound run defender who plays with great extension when latching on to guards and tackles. As a slender 6-foot-5, 265-pound end, Williams showed he can shed blocks on the interior, mostly lining up in a 4i for Georgia this past season. As a rusher, Williams does a phenomenal job of converting speed to power, often forcing offensive lineman up out of their anchor. He also uses his length equally well as a rusher with the ability to long-arm and swipe through guys on his way to the quarterback.
Williams likely won't grab your attention from an athletic testing standpoint, but he's certainly a plug-and-play type of player for almost every defense. The hypothetical question we can ask, is where would he potentially fit with the Saints?
With Williams' measurables, he certainly fits the prototype for your typical Saints defensive end of the past. Even with some of the players they have now in Chase Young, Carl Granderson and Isaiah Foskey. Williams likely gives the team some of what they already have along the defensive line. Not to say he couldn't come in and compete for a starting role in year one, but the team lacks speed and explosiveness off edge. Unlike a James Pearce Jr. for example, who plays like a guy shot out of a cannon on the edge.
It is likely that Williams is still high on the Saints draft board because of the player that he is overall, but it's tough to see him making an impact early with the team.
