Here's a great opportunity for New Orleans Saints assistant coach Terry Joseph. On Thursday, the East-West Shrine Bowl announced that Joseph will work as the West Team defensive coordinator for this year's all-star game, giving him a chance to run practices, network, and interact with many prospects in the 2026 NFL Draft class. Joseph joined the Saints last year as their defensive pass game coordinator, having coached the Texas Longhorns defense from 2021 to 2024.
The Saints have found a lot of talent at the Shrine Bowl over the years. Just in 2025 they drafted players like edge rusher Fadil Digg while signing rookie free agents including punter Kai Kroeger and offensive lineman Xavier Truss, who they claimed on waivers from the Denver Broncos. In 2024 they found draft picks like wide receiver Bub Means, defensive tackle Khristian Boyd, and offensive tackle Josiah Ezirim plus undrafted free agents like punter Matthew Hayball, and tight end Dallin Holker. Tight end Mason Pline and cornerback Beanie Bishop Jr. also participated and recently joined the Saints practice squad.
So don't be shocked if a couple of prospects catch Joseph's eye. But this is a great opportunity for him to show he can lead practice sessions and develop young pros, which could help him find a promotion as a defensive coordinator in the NFL later on down the line. We'll be keeping an eye on him during the week of practices leading up to the Shrine Bowl game on Tuesday, Jan. 27.
