Saints' Alvin Kamara trade outlook has obvious A.J. Brown link originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.

The New Orleans Saints signaled their intentions at running back earlier this offseason when they signed Travis Etienne to a big free agent contract.

Alvin Kamara's future was immediately put in doubt, and he's looking at least at a role reduction and potentially at being traded.

If a trade is coming, it might be soon.

The same post-June 1 salary cap implications that the Philadelphia Eagles are looking at with A.J. Brown apply to Kamara and the Saints.

Essentially, there's less of a dead cap impact for these teams to move their players after June 1 as opposed to before.

Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio pointed this out in a new article, writing, "The most obvious post-June 1 trade candidate is Saints running back Alvin Kamara, who has been supplanted by the arrival of Travis Etienne."

Essentially, what happens with post-June 1 trades is that dead money can be spread across multiple years.

Moves that happen prior to June 1 put any of that remaining money onto the cap just for the current season ahead.

Clearly, players making as much as Brown or Kamara make sense to move at the time when it's more financially viable for the team giving them up.

For the Saints, it's not clear exactly how much trade value Kamara might have. He's an aging running back who clearly has his best days behind him, but he's also a multi-faceted threat out of the backfield when utilized correctly.

Another team could certainly want him, if the price isn't too much, and so New Orleans has to decide whether Kamara is worth more to them on the roster or in a deal for a mid-tier return.

But if it's going to happen, getting past June 1 will be a key point in the process.
