SAEGERTOWN — The Saegertown Panthers issued a statement win on Wednesday just days before seeding for District 10's Class 2A playoffs is announced.

Saegertown played bully ball from start to finish and dominated Greenville 69-27 at Steve Scott Gymnasium. The win pushed Saegertown to 18-3 and moved the Panthers win streak to seven games. Greenville fell to 13-8 and saw its seven-game win streak snapped.

Both teams are in the running to finish with a share of their respective region and will likely end up in top four seeds when D-10 releases the brackets on Saturday.

"We told the team they were going to see a very good Greenville team that is rolling. District 10 thinks they are a very good team as well," Saegertown head coach Chris Greco said. "The seeding comes out on Saturday and we will see what happens. Hopefully the committee takes note of what we accomplished tonight."

What the Panthers accomplished was nothing short of domination. Greenville, a very athletic team, came out in a full court press to open the game. Saegertown broke the press over and over again and led 15-2 about five minutes into the game.

"We talk about setting the tone every game. Tonight we thought they might come out and press us. We ran our press break flawlessly tonight and that hasn't always been the case, but tonight it certainly was," Greco said. "To jump on them early took the wind out of their sails and gave us momentum. We were ready to go from that point on. We didn't let up."

The Panthers were aggressive on both sides of the ball and forced their way to the hoop. Senior Luke Young scored 11 points in the opening quarter, all of which came in the paint.

Greenville turned in a 6-0 run to cut the Panthers' lead to 15-8, but the Trojans never got any closer. Saegertown led 25-12 after the first quarter and 40-17 at halftime. The Panthers consistently found open looks while denying anything easy on the defensive end.

"Our calling card this year is relentless. That is our team motto. The pressure has to be relentless," Greco said. "You have to bring it in waves over and over throughout a whole game, not just flip the switch when you want to, but keep it up all game and all season long."

Saegertown outscored Greenville 21-8 in the third quarter for a commanding 61-25 lead through three quarters before reserves entered the game. Greenville's scored an average of 62.2 points per game entering the contest, but Saegertown's defense was tenacious and the Panthers were not denied on senior night.

"We are not done, we have a big game on Friday at Maplewood. They responded very well tonight. We were without our point guard (Levi Gardner) last night (Tuesday) as he battled an illness. His energy, grit and determination was big. The energy was there tonight with all of them," Greco said. "They didn't let senior night slip away and they wanted to put last night behind them and be ready to go. I am really proud of what they accomplished tonight."

Young led all scorers with 24 points. Jackson Scott added 21 with Gardner and Blake Leslie each adding 10.
