Sabres get another shift in rumors on Robert Thomas trade with Blues originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Buffalo Sabres may not have hopped off the Robert Thomas trade rollercoaster just yet.
The St. Louis Blues' star center remains on the trade block, with a big asking price, and it seemed the Sabres had backed off.
Earlier this week, the deal was rumored, but then reports indicated Buffalo wasn't willing to pay what St. Louis wanted.
Turns out, the Sabres have stuck around.
The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reported Thursday that the Sabres continue to involve themselves in the talks.
"Colleagues Darren Dreger and Chris Johnstonreported Tuesday afternoon about the Buffalo Sabres’ keen interest in Thomas," LeBrun writes. "Given Josh Norris’ struggles to stay healthy, this makes sense on a host of levels for the Sabres. The Utah Mammoth are also among the teams in conversations with St. Louis on Thomas. The question is whether the price will soften by 3 p.m. ET tomorrow or whether the Blues are happy to just keep Thomas and try out the market again come the offseason. They’ve acquired a lot of market knowledge on the interest in him. What’s funny is that I got completely opposite reads on the Thomas situations from two team executives on Monday, one predicting Thomas for sure will get dealt by tomorrow's deadline and the other predicting the Blues will wait until the summer to revisit that file."

The Sabres have had an odd week of negotiations with the Blues.
They already had Colton Parayko framework agreed to, only for the defenseman to use his no-trade clause to veto the deal.
Now, the Sabres are going back to the St. Louis well. The Blues have a lot of talented players conceptually available.
Buffalo just has to decide if the full cost is worth it.
