Sabres' Tage Thompson wastes no time as Buffalo's torrid pace continues originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
If Tage Thompson was supposed to be negatively impacted in some way by the all of his recent intense hockey at the Olympics and celebrations that followed Team USA's gold medal, well, no one told him.
He didn't miss a game of NHL action, returning at the first opportunity for the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night in New Jersey.
And once on the ice, Thompson made the entire difference.
He opened the scoring in the second period with his 31st goal of the season.
Then in the third, Thompson dished out his 30th assist of the campaign, setting up Peyton Krebs for a 2-0 lead.
The Devils got a late goal back, but the Sabres held on to win, 2-1.
The #Sabres are on a 102-point pace for the season. Seriously.

MORE: Sidney Crosby breaks silence on injury, Olympics and rest of Penguins' season
The Sabres were one of the NHL's best stories of the first half. After a slow start, they went on an astounding hot streak that pushed them into a playoff spot.
Buffalo has missed the postseason for each of the last 14 campaigns. They now look like a team capable of ending that drought.
The Olympic break threw a wrench into things, though. How would teams respond after multiple weeks off, while some of their players took part in high-level competition all the way in Italy?
Well, looks like the Sabres weren't bothered. Thompson was ready to go, and so were the rest of his Buffalo teammates, and so their roll has continued.
