Highlights

  • Ryan Garcia lost a $40,000 bet to Arman Tsarukyan during a viral livestream on Kick
  • The two men eventually sparred, with a controversial social media narrative about who won
  • Garcia's next target remains a Devin Haney rematch despite a few obstacles

Ryan Garcia is a legitimate world champion in boxing after his one-sided unanimous decision win over Mario Barrios in February. Garcia's also a world-class content creator with a knack for participating in viral clips.

He did it again on Wednesday when he teamed up with UFC lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan for an entertaining, but costly video.

During the stream, which was conducted on Garcia's Kick account, two men had been cruising around in a vehicle before arriving at a home when Tsarukyan bet Garcia $40,000 that he couldn't drop someone from his team with a body shot. Garcia didn't want to participate at first. Ultimately he did and the man from Tsarukyan's camp took the shots like a champ.

Garcia stopped at two punches and surrendered the $40,000, and he invited the man to spar instead. The men posed for a picture afterward with another social media influencer, Ashton Hall also on hand. The two men did wind up sparring and the gentlemen held his own, though they weren't punching to the head and they stayed in very close proximity.

Many social media outlets painted it as Garcia was schooled, but that take comes from a lack of actual boxing knowledge. This wasn't a boxing match where movement and punches to the head are a major part of the fight. As it is, Tsarukyan's unnamed friend is one tough guy.

What Was the Garcia-Tsarukyan Dynamic?

Garcia and Tsarukyan's friendship is the broader story here. The $40,000 bet is just one episode in a larger, ongoing relationship between a boxing world champion and one of the UFC's top lightweight contenders.

That crossover appeal — combat sports' two biggest disciplines merging through personalities — is exactly why their content works.

Garcia clearly enjoys Tsarukyan’s energy, and Tsarukyan understands Garcia's platform is a megaphone for his own visibility before a likely lightweight title push. This is collaborative star-making dressed as viral entertainment.

What Happened in the Spar?

Why Does Garcia Keep Creating Content Like This?

Garcia understands what it takes to be relevant in entertainment in the current climate. He stays visible, offers his opinions without much fear of backlash and does outrageous things that draw attention on top of his boxing gifts.

The Kick livestream format rewards exactly that kind of unfiltered personality. Garcia has understood for years that the fight business is only part of the job. Building an audience that will follow you regardless of your next bout is the other half — and he’s mastered it.

What's Next for Garcia?

Next up for Garcia should be the rematch with Devin Haney. There appears to be a few impediments in the way, but as it is, Garcia doesn't appear to be hurting for money. The boxing landscape is stacked with possibilities.

Errol Spence Jr.'s confirmed comeback against Tim Tszyu and Claressa Shields' comments after Keith Thurman's KO loss are just two reminders of how active the sport is right now.

Garcia is at the center of it all, and a Haney rematch would be among the most anticipated boxing events of 2026. His unanimous decision win over Mario Barrios showed he's operating at the top of his game.
