Ryan Blaney didn't have a fast enough car to truly compete for the win at Martinsville Speedway; however, he never had a chance to flex his muscles upfront. On the final restart, Denny Hamlin put Blaney's No. 12 car in the wall off of Turn 4, putting him in a tough situation for the rest of the race.
The Team Penske driver climbed to sixth place; however, he wasn't happy with the incident. Following the event, Blaney expressed his displeasure with Hamlin's move at Martinsville.
“Yeah, [Denny Hamlin] just put me in the fence,” Blaney said. “That’s what it looked like from my seat. I was pretty tight after that. But luckily, we were able to kind of get one or two spots back after that happened. I feel like I got driven into the fence. From my seat, it seemed like overkill. I don’t know. I’m sure he doesn’t think the same.”
While it didn't brutally impact Blaney's day at Martinsville, he still lost out on points due to a sixth-place finish. The driver of the No. 12 car was capable of finishing in the top-5 spots, leaving points on the table. Now, Blaney will go into the off weekend hoping for a better outcome at Bristol Motor Speedway in two weeks.
