During the Big Ten Media Days, Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano made an appearance on the Pardon My Take podcast, a podcast run by Dan Katz and Eric Sollenberger of Barstool Sports. While the podcast did have some of the usual Barstool Sports- type banter, it also gave a little bit of insight into what Schiano is looking for out of his team this season from a mental point of view.
When Schiano was asked about what the motto is for his team this season, he said: “Do it for each other.” In a previous interview last season, Schiano mentioned that they often lean into different elements of the Family, Trust, Chop mantra at different times. Based on his responses here, it sounds like they could be pushing the Family and Trust parts of that so far in the off-season. This also could be an effort to get the team to rally together after a rough 2025 campaign.
Another interesting thing to note is that during the podcast, Schiano says that with the additions of President William Tate and AD Keli Zinn, he basically feels like he took a new job because the atmosphere is just that much different than when he started his 2.0 run.
As stated before, the podcast, which runs for only about 15 minutes or so, is full of funny banter where Schiano had a chance to show a bit of his personality outside of being a football coach. Those interested can check out the full podcast here.
