Rutgers freshman Ace Bailey told ESPN on Wednesday that he is declaring for the 2025 NBA draft after one season with the Scarlet Knights.
Bailey was a third-team All-Big Ten selection, averaging 17.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 blocks and one steal on 34.6% shooting from 3-point range. He had the second-most points by a true freshman in program history (527) and was sixth among all freshmen in the country.
The 6-foot-10 forward was the highest-ranked player (No. 2) to commit to Rutgers as a consensus five-star recruit. He led the team in rebounding (215) and blocks (38) in 30 games.
Bailey is projected to be a top-five pick in the draft this year, with his size, scoring and instincts on both ends of the court. He has an incredible feel for the game and can score from each level after registering three 30-point performances with the Scarlet Knights.
The 18-year-old can get his shot off in various ways in the paint and mid-range, and he proved to be a good cutter on offense. He also showed that he can space the floor, shooting off the catch or on the move at a high level throughout the year.
Bailey entered the season with tremendous hype, alongside teammate and projected high pick Dylan Harper. Though the Scarlet Knights didn't have much success on the season, going 15-17 and finishing 11th in the Big Ten, Bailey had a tremendous freshman campaign.
The 2025 NBA draft will occur June 25-26 in New York City.
