POSEYVILLE, Ind. — Rusty Seymour is choosing a new path forward.
He announced on Wednesday that he has stepped down as the North Posey High School boys basketball coach. Seymour went 71-44 across five seasons with the Vikings and never posted a losing record. His time on the sideline represented the program's longest stretch of winning in the last 30 years.

North Posey finished 12-12 last season and lost to Forest Park in the Class 2A sectional semifinal.
"North Posey basketball will have a special place in my heart," Seymour said on social media. "I hope the relationships that were made with our players last forever. I learned a great deal, grown both professionally and personally, and had the pleasure of collaborating with some truly talented individuals. I’m especially grateful for the student athletes and coaches who worked their absolute hardest for this school and the program to become better people on and off the court."
Seymour, a 2000 North Posey graduate, was a walk-on for coach Bruce Pearl at the University of Southern Indiana for one season. When Pearl left for Milwaukee, Seymour transferred to Murray State to attend school. He later graduated from USI with a bachelor's degree in sport management.
His coaching career began at North Posey as an assistant freshman coach. He later became the head freshman coach and an assistant under Gary Gentil. Seymour left for New Harmony in 2008 and compiled an 18-27 record across two seasons. He returned to North Posey in 2011 to coach baseball and later rejoined the basketball staff under Heath Howington.
Seymour's best year was a 19-win campaign in 2024 that ended in the sectional championship. The Vikings reached the sectional final three times in the last five years, losing to Forest Park each time. North Posey, which won its only sectional title in 1966, graduates three of its top four scorers.
Seymour missed the first nine games of the 2022-23 season after requiring open heart surgery. He was living with a birth defect called a myocardial bridge, which occurs when a coronary artery tunnels through or under the heart rather than sitting on top of it. Seymour made a return to the sideline two months later.
"Although I’m stepping down as head coach, I will always look back on my time here with appreciation and respect for those that supported me," Seymour continued. "I hope to stay involved and continue to help the program grow and continue to support the boys Viking basketball program. I will be forever grateful for my time at North Posey."

I want to take a moment to sincerely thank the kids, staff and coaches for the opportunities, support, and experiences...
