Sacramento Kings point guard Russell Westbrook can add another accolade to his resume.
With his point production during Sacramento's 129-102 loss to the Phoenix Suns on Friday night, Westbrook passed Oscar Robertson to become the highest-scoring point guard in NBA history.
Robertson scored 26,710 points over the course of his career. Westbrook now has 26,711 and counting, which is the 15th-most in league history. Westbrook becomes the fourth active player in the top 15, joining LeBron James, Kevin Durant and James Harden.
When informed after the game that Westbrook had broken the record, King coach Doug Christie heaped praise on the veteran guard.
"I didn't know that he broke another record tonight. He continues to break records," Christie said. "Russ is a freak of nature. His competitiveness, his competitive drive, his spirit to continue to play as hard as he does, I think this is year 18 or whatever it is. [I've] always been a fan of his and it's an absolute honor to coach him."
Considering how many great point guards there have been in NBA history, the fact that Westbrook has scored more than all of them is extremely impressive, and a testament to both his productivity and longevity.
