Rush backs Anfield atmosphere to help Liverpool after tough UCL draw

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has backed the Anfield atmosphere to help the club after a tough Champions League draw.

Arne Slot’s side will face Galatasaray in the Round of 16, in a rematch of their league phase fixture in Istanbul. Liverpool lost that contest 1-0, while the Reds have also been drawn on the tougher side of the Champions League draw.

Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain await in the quarter-finals should Slot’s side progress, while Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Atalanta are potential semi-final opponents.

Speaking to UEFA after the draw, Rush said the Anfield atmosphere will be an advantage for his former club.

“At this stage, every game is difficult. Galatasaray had a good win against Juventus.

“They scored seven goals in two games and I can see there being plenty of goals in the game. I think our advantage is that the second leg is at home. Fantastic atmosphere, and it depends on the result in the first game.

“I think the atmosphere at Anfield is second to none and, hopefully, that will come into act as well.

“You have PSG, Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich – that side of the draw is hardest, but if you are going to win it, you have got to beat them all on the way.”
