Lewis gave the Twins a big moment in a pivotal week.

The Minnesota Twins saw themselves down to their final out against the Kansas City Royals in a pivotal spot on Tuesday night. Down by just one run with two runners on in a 2-1 game, they turned to one of their top bats with the game on the line.

Royce Lewis came up to the plate with runners on first and second. On a 1-1 pitch, he scorched a cutter deep to the right-center field gap, hitting the ball off the wall for a two-run walk-off triple and giving the Twins a moment they needed.

Suddenly, with five games to go until the trade deadline, the Twins now find themselves at .500 with a record of 54-54. More importantly, they own a realistic chance to make that push for contention.

Minnesota has stayed steady and consistent all year, despite some injuries attempting to hold them back. But one thing has been for sure for the Twins over the last month — they are here to win.

Lewis’ big moment holds the potential to give the Twins the momentum they need as they head into a very pivotal week of their season. Their win inches them that much closer into the postseason column that they have been sniffing over the past couple of weeks.

The Twins now sit just a half game back of the Cleveland Guardians for the third and final Wild Card spot, remaining in striking distance. They even sit just two games back of the Chicago White Sox for the top team in the AL Central.

On paper, Tuesday’s walk-off means so much more for Minnesota as they gear up for the trade frenzy. It likely will lead to more certainty for owner Jeremy Zoll, who said the team will look to buy at the trade deadline, meaning players like Joe Ryan and Ryan Jeffers will likely stay put with the team.

Tuesday’s contest was a frustrating one for the Twins prior to the thrilling finish. Minnesota seemed to be going in the direction of a hard-luck loss, as they had grounded into five double players in the game.

The Royals’ Seth Lugo had limited the damage against the Twins lineup, allowing one run in six innings. However, he may have been outpitched by Minnesota starter Taj Bradley, who allowed two runs in six innings but tossed an even 10 strikeouts.

Minnesota will look to keep their rhythm going as they aim for a fourth straight win on Wednesday against the Royals, their second of three games against their division rival.
