Ashlyn Carder’s ground ball scored Briana Hoisington with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning April 28, lifting the Lakewood softball team to a 5-4 victory against visiting Heath to take a two-game lead in the Licking County League-Cardinal Division.
Carder added a double and an RBI and Cora Redman two doubles, a run and an RBI for the Lancers (16-3, 9-2), who were ranked No. 4 in Division IV in this week’s state coaches poll. Averie Adams struck out one in three hitless innings of relief.
Sydney Cottrell led the Bulldogs (10-10, 7-4) with a hit, a run and an RBI, and Shelby Moore added a double and a single and Krystal Keeran a hit and three walks. Kylie Green allowed three hits and no earned runs in four innings of relief.
Addy Zak homered and doubled and knocked in four runs for Johnstown in a 16-10 victory at Utica in LCL-Cardinal play.
Riley Stefanick added two hits, four runs and three RBIs, Jenna Hochanadel three hits, including a triple and a double, and an RBI and Reese Lyons two hits, two runs and two RBIs for the Johnnies (8-7, 7-4). Stefanick also struck out six and allowed two earned runs in four innings of relief.
Makena Wilson hit a three-run home run for Utica (7-10, 4-6). Kiersten Hull added two hits, including a triple, two runs and three RBIs, Kenzie Fletcher a triple and a double, two runs and an RBI and Emily Meyers two hits, a run and an RBI.
Alexa Gilliam and Addison Justice each homered and knocked in three runs during Licking Valley’s 13-2 victory against visiting Granville in LCL-Buckeye play.
Gilliam also doubled and scored three runs, and Emory Whisner, Chloe Cooperrider and D’Neya Dennis added two hits, including a double, and two runs each for Panthers (14-4, 9-2), who are ranked No. 7 in Division IV and remained tied for first with Mount Vernon. Whisner struck out six and allowed no earned runs in five innings.

Savanna Christ homered and drove in three runs for Licking Heights in a 17-0 victory at Zanesville (0-14, 0-10) in LCL-Buckeye play.
Ali West added three hits, three runs and four RBIs, Lily Meidl three hits, including two doubles, three runs and an RBI, and Hailey Anderson two hits, a run and two RBIs for the Hornets (10-8, 6-5). Natalie Mahoney struck out 12 in a five-inning no-hitter.

Zanesville (8-9, 4-6) scored a run in the top of the ninth to win a suspended game 5-4 before sending visiting Licking Heights to a 10-2 defeat in LCL-Buckeye play.
Blake Caldwell struck out four and allowed one run in 4 1/3 innings of relief in the first game, and Grady Stephens had a hit, a run and an RBI for the Hornets (1-13, 0-10). Caleb Starns had two hits in the second game, and Alex Dufour struck out five and allowed two earned runs in three innings of relief.
Mason Kamppi had the lone hit for Liberty Christian in an 11-1 loss at Tree of Life in MOCAL play.
Jackson Cecil scored a run, and Luke Mollohan drove him in for the Eagles (0-5, 0-4).
