INDIANAPOLIS — Butler basketball has added a chief of staff to first-year coach Ronald Nored's confidants.

Matt Frederick brings a wealth of various experiences to the role. He will be the primary advisor when it comes to operations, goals of the program and strategic planning, as well as being the go-between athletics and the campus community. Frederick brings experience from the private sector most recently but previously spent time as director of athlete performance at Gardner-Webb and Belmont.

“I’ve known Matt for a long time and his skillset is ideal for this position within our program,” Nored said in a release. “The college basketball industry has never been more complex and the need for talented, strategic and relationship-based problem-solvers has never been greater. Matt will play a key role in navigating our path to success. I’m excited for Matt and his family to join our Butler family.”

Frederick is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He played baseball for two years at Bevill State Community College and then at Samford, where he graduated in 2013 with a degree in kinesiology. He then went to Mississippi College where he earned a master's in exercise physiology and worked with eight teams, including men's and women's basketball, for two years as assistant strength coach. He also spent a year as a volunteer strength and conditioning coach at Auburn.

Frederick is the latest addition to Nored's first staff. It's the third hire announced this week after former LSU assistant Jalen Courtney-Williams and former Butler basketball player Emerson Kampen were announced.

Shortly after Nored was hired, he brought back Jon Diebler as an assistant coach and shifted Tony Bollier to the bench on top of his general manager and director of player personnel assignments.
