I am very interested in Ron Wolf. His track record speaks for itself. My impression of him, is that he is an NFL commodity. He's been around many NFL teams for a long time. We have had a few threads here that have brought up his name once again.

I do not believe that the NFL will allow our attendance problems to continue in the new venue. With that in mind...

I did a google on Ron Wolf. Did you know he's only 64? He retired from Green Bay after 10 years in Feb. 2001. Green Bay holds his rights for three years.

He will be free from that agreement IN FOUR MONTHS.

His son has been in player personel for the Packers for the last four years. He had made a deal in 1991, with the Cardinals, to move up to our spot so he could draft Brett Favre, a player Wolf had right at the top of his draft board. At the last minute, the Cardinals backed out of the deal, took Swanny, and the Falcons took Favre. Of course, Wolf got his man the very next year for a first round draft pick.

When he retired from the Pack, he stated he was burned out, and needed a break, but there were reports that the cap manager from the team also may have had something to do with his decision. He has remained in a position that allows him to continue scouting as a consultant for his son's employer. (training his kid?)

From the Cardinals media guide: "Rod Graves was promoted to the newly-created position of vice president-football operations."

Not General Manager.

Other reports contained information that Wolf would not be interested in working for an owner that is too involved in the process, he wants to run the football operation himself.

No problem here. Give the guy what he wants, stay out of his way, and we should be where we all want to be by 2006.

What do you think?

First, I don't think that Ron Wolf would be very interested in coming here.

Second, I think that Graves and Michael Bidwill have a good realtionship, and that Michael is going to give Graves his shot.

Third, I like the idea, but it's just as likely that all the assistants are going to be fired along with Mac, and that Tom Coughlin, Nick Saban, and Bob Stoops are all going to be knocking down the door of the practice facility to interview for a position come January.

Lex is onto something in one area: The NFL in my opinion does not want this train wreck to continue into the new stadium. While it is a useless exercise to try to change ownership or get the NFL to do something about the current owners (not gonna happen)... I do think that if the Cardinals want some high profile guy to come here - like a Ron Wolf - I could see the Commissioners office making a few phone calls to try to sell someone on coming here..it is the least they could do. If Mcginnis is gone if the offseason..and if (huge if) the Cardinals truly want a successful big name coach or GM - and no one wants the job - I would not be surprised if the NFL office became involved and tried to coax someone into coming here..just my opinion.

And that is why I was onto my dennis green stuff a few weeks ago -because minority head coaches is a big issue for the NFL - and if the Cardinals go after a minority coach - I would expect more coaxing from the NFL than if it was a non-minority coach we wanted...but I doubt Green would be interested - and he is a players coach - and I think the Cardinals will go in a different direction.

In New York, the Jets had Brett Favre rated as the top player — absolute top player — on their draft board (in 1991). They had a deal made with the Cardinals to move up to get him. The Cardinals, at the last minute, backed out of the deal and Atlanta picked him one pick later. However, Wolf recouped that in Green Bay by trading his first-round pick to Atlanta for Favre the next year. (It was) what many people considered a ludicrous deal since Favre was a second-round pick who Jerry Glanville (the Falcons head coach) wanted absolutely nothing to do with. He felt (Favre) was a playboy, a big drinker and not the type of player he wanted around his team. Wolf was one of the few front-office people in the NFL who would admit a mistake, like he did with Ray Rhodes as head coach and with some of his draft picks, and cut his losses instead of trying to prove himself right.

One interesting thing about Wolf, he and Trestman are actually "friends" in a round about way. I know I posted this before but both men are Jewish and through some organization or another came to be friends. In fact if you do a search on Google of Ron Wolf Cardinals, one of the first links you get is Jews in Sports which is just a listing of Jewish people in various sports. I can't remember the specific organization they were with I seem to recall it had to do with mentoring young people but I can't recall.

This is why this offseason when the comments Wolf made about not liking Jake Plummer as a QB came out, I made the comment that it was obvious he got that stuff from Trestman and not just from watching the team on TV or something. Because he in fact knew Trestman quite well.

I would love for it to happen but until it does I'd have to consider it far fetched that one of the great football minds would want to work for the Bidwills.

Wolf is even closer friends with Bill Parcells. Last year the two spent time in Florida watching spring training games together. They go back a long ways, and are both cut from the same mold. They tell it like it is, and don't give you all the B.S. politically correct answers.

If Wolf really wanted to come out of retirement, I believe the Cards could get him, but only if Bidwill was willing to meet Wolf's terms and give him 100% control.

Wolf drafted Vonnie Holliday. It would have been interesting to see if Wolf would have convinced Holliday to play here.

Pete Rozelle pushed the Giants to hire Young as the GM several years ago who helped turn around the Giants in the 80s. It would be interesting to see if the NFL would push the Cardinals in a similar way if attendance keeps going down the next few years.
