Ron Darling smashes coaching for mental mistakes amid brutal Mets season appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
There is plenty of time left in the MLB regular season, as there is around two-thirds of the 162-game grind left. But for the New York Mets, hope is evaporating rather quickly, especially among diehard fans and those in close proximity to the team. One of them is Ron Darling, a former All-Star pitcher for the Mets who is now the color commentator/analyst for SNY’s television broadcast of Mets games.
On Tuesday night, the Mets hosted the Cincinnati Reds for the second game of a three-game series. New York had been slumping, coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of the Miami Marlins, and on Monday, they lost the first game of their series against the Reds by five runs, 7-2.
On Wednesday, the Mets’ struggles continued, as they lost by the exact same score line to the Reds yet again. It’s gotten to the point where Darling felt as though it was appropriate to air his frustrations towards the coaching staff live on television.
“I don’t understand it. But it really tells me the coaches really don’t have as much as influence as the players as think they have because someone should rip someone at some point. But they don’t, because they don’t want to upset anyone. You have to back up bases every single time,” Darling said, via @runwildkian on X (formerly Twitter).

The Mets are losing the plot, and they aren’t even nailing the fundamentals of baseball down. Darling was alluding to the Mets’ defensive miscues earlier in the game, when there was a force out at any base and they didn’t have players stationed at every single one.
This is the kind of poor baseball the Mets have been guilty of all year, and at some point, a major upheaval has to come for this decaying team.
