BOSTON — Red Sox left fielder Roman Anthony has still not swung a bat since last Thursday. That’s when he felt discomfort in his injured hand when he attempted to hit off a tee.

Boston did not send the 22-year-old for any additional imaging after the latest setback. No date has been set for when he will attempt to swing again.

“I think right now the time frame is when we feel like, ‘Hey, this is starting to feel pretty good, we try again,’” interim manager Chad Tracy said at Fenway Park on Wednesday. “And when we try again, we see how he responds to that and say, that’s good news or bad news, whatever, and we back off or go more. That’s where we’re at.”

Anthony has been on the 10-day injured list since May 7 with a sprained ligament under his right ring finger suffered during an at-bat in Detroit on May 4.

The Red Sox labeled the injury a “right wrist sprain.” However, in an interview with WEEI’s Rob Bradford last Thursday, Anthony called it a “partially torn ring finger ligament in (the) ring finger CMC (carpometacarpal)” joint.

“No other imaging,” Tracy said. “It’s just one of those things that it’s just not ready yet.”

Anthony, who received a cortisone shot, tried hitting off a tee last week after taking dry swings without any pain.

The Red Sox initially called Anthony’s status “day-to-day” and thought he would avoid the injured list. Anthony then said May 7 that he expected to be ready to return as soon as he was eligible to be activated.

“When he did it, the hope was, ‘OK, could this be quick or not?’” Tracy said. “But you don’t know. You don’t know until the player starts going through it and what is he able to do and what does he feel? It literally is one of those where you have to go a day at a time and see, ‘All right, does this feel good? Can we take more?’ And we did that. ... And then it starts to creep again and you have to back off.

“I don’t have a timetable on it,” he added. “I just know that with this injury, we’ve gotta wait until it feels better, add more. When that feels better, you add more. And that’s where we’re at. And until it gets to the point where he feels healthy and he feels like his hand is healthy, then we can proceed quickly, but we have to get to that point.”
